Topic: Core Skills: IP Subnetting
-
Presenter: Eric Johnson, Consortio Services
-
Description: Announcing our CSWUG September meeting. Tell me if you can answer these questions easily: what’s the default subnet syntax for a class A, B, and C IP address? What’s the first octet rule? In the network 172.16.0.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.248.0, how many subnets are there with how many hosts possible in each? IP subnetting is an essential skill, even if you don’t work in networking full time. A Windows admin needs to be familiar with IP address subnetting in order to plan and troubleshoot effectively. This is the first in a repeating series called Core Skills where we will cover what you should know as a Windows administrator. Join Eric Johnson, author and president of the Colorado Springs SQL Server User Group, as he gets down and dirty with subnetting tips and tricks. This will be a no gloss, pen and pad kind of presentation, so bring some paper to get the most out of this session.
As usual, our meeting is at the Rockrimmon Public Library this Wednesday, September 3rd, beginning at 5:30 for snack and 6:00 for the presentation. I hope to see all our regulars and some new faces.

Topic: PDC Tech: Windows 7 and Azure and how we take advantage
-
Presenter: Eric Beehler, Colorado Springs Windows User Group
-
Description: This week's meeting will be held at an alternate location since we were double-booked by the library. Our meeting space this month is at Tek Systems, our regular sponsor. We appreciate the space. No luck getting a sponsored speaker this month, so I will be speaking about a couple different topics including the new cloud services and Windows 7 annouced at PDC by Microsoft. It will be an informal discussion where we will cover technology as well as career building on these new technologies. Sorry for the lack of a deep-dive, but I have the double-whammy that my laptop is out for service, so the true tech demo I was planning is out this week.
This is important, because the location is downtown, I'd like a count of the number of people planning to attend. If If we have little interest, we may have to postpone. Please send me a reply at ericb@cswindows.org and let me know. I will update the web site and email with the decision by this time tomorrow.
Thanks everyone for working with me.
